Our Story

Gorgeous Hair. Nothing down the drain.

We were one of the first five salons in the country to partner with Green Circle Salons, well ahead of the rest of the industry. And it stuck.

Salons generate more waste than people realize. Leftover color, used foil, and hair clippings usually end up down the drain or in a landfill. Through Green Circle, we keep 90% of ours out of rivers and landfills, recycling the color, foil, and hair instead. Our energy comes from renewable sources through the Blue Sky program.

We’re just as choosy about what goes on your hair and partner with Davines, O&M, and Cult & King because caring for your hair and caring for the planet shouldn’t be a trade-off.

This is the part we’ll happily brag about.

A small grocery store named Busy Corner Grocery on the corner of a street with residential houses, cars parked along the road, and utility poles with power lines. The store has a sign with Coca-Cola advertising and a teal-colored entrance.

Busy Corner Grocery, 1965

The Busy Corner came first

The building at SE 41st and Raymond has anchored this corner of Woodstock since 1910. For most of a century it was the Busy Corner Grocery, the kind of neighborhood store where kids spent their pennies on candy and neighbors caught up over the counter. The name was literal. It was a busy corner, and it was where the neighborhood came together.

Groceries eventually gave way to a café, then a wine bar, and for the better part of two decades the building sat empty. In 2025, Portland preservationist Matt Froman bought it and spent a year bringing it back, working from old photographs and restoring the original hand-painted signage that had been hidden for fifty years. The building looks like itself again.

We’re the next chapter.

The Busy Corner is a gathering place again. Same corner, different craft. These days the people at the counter are here for a cut, a color, and of course, good conversation.

We didn’t start here. For over thirty years we were Arabella Salon, a small salon built on a simple idea: high-end hair, laid-back vibes, and a room where everyone knows your name. We changed our name to match our new home. Three decades of craft came with us, and so did the people who do it.

What our clients say…

Busy Corner is a vibe. Calm, full of feminine energy, and all the stylists are brilliant!

I have been going to Deanna for years, returning from abroad to have her do my hair. She is the sweetest, most magical human that always does the best job on my hair; I have never been disappointed.

Michelle T.

The only person I trust with my hair.

Caitlin is the only person I trust with my hair. I have been going to her for years, even after moving 90 minutes from Portland I still make the trek to see her! Caitlin knows how to deal with my fine but thick hair to make it have just the right volume and be low maintenance (which is important to me). She is also a pro at corrective color!

Mischa E.

Very welcoming space.

Abby did an amazing job giving me a layered haircut and bangs! She really listened to what I wanted and also was so kind. My hair has so much more shape and movement, also smells amazing!
